War Room movie review

"Juggling motherhood and her job as a real-estate agent, Elizabeth Jordan wishes her husband could help more around the house. But Tony's rising career as a pharmaceutical salesman demands more and more of his time. With a nice home in the suburbs and a lovely young daughter, they appear to have it all yet they can't seem to spend time together without fighting.

Hoping for a new listing, Elizabeth visits the home of Clara Williams, an elderly widow, and is both amused and uncomfortable when Clara starts asking pointed questions about her marriage and faith. But it's Clara's secret prayer room, with its walls covered in requests and answers, that has Elizabeth most intrigued . . . even if she's not ready to take Clara's suggestion that she create a prayer room of her own. As tensions at home escalate, though, Elizabeth begins to realize that her family is worth fighting for, and she can't win this battle on her own. Stepping out in blind faith, putting her prayers for her family and their future in God's hands, might be her only chance at regaining the life she was meant for."

120 Minutes
By the Kendrick Brothers
Directed by Alex Kendrick
Rated: PG
Released: 2015

Negative Elements:

There are very few negative elements in this movie! No bad words or crude language at all. =) The main caution is that a man is flirtatious with a woman other than his wife, and things get serious between them. (until his wife's prayers save him from a bad situation) There is nothing inappropriate shown. There is a little violence (flashbacks of war and one scene of someone with a knife), but it would all depend on your family's opinions. I didn't have a problem with any of the violence.

My Review:

I suppose I should just come out and say this is one of my favorite movies. =) It has impacted my walk with Jesus, unlike many other "good" movies I've seen. The story might not be called "adventurous" or "full of excitement." While there's not much drama in it, the story is simple and captivating. You walk through Elizabeth's struggles as she learns how to become a prayer warrior. She realizes the importance to fight her battles on her knees. As a mentor says, "In order to stand up and fight the enemy, you need to get on your knees and pray." But the struggles that arise seem too heavy for her to carry alone. Even though her family has everything, it seems as if they have missed the point.

I really enjoyed the acting in this movie. The characters feel so real, and some are quite hilarious. Our family quotes the best lines around the house all. the. time. =)

This movie impacted me by one of its quotes. Someone says (and I don't know the exact wording), "What would you say if I asked what your prayer life looks like? Is it hot or cold?" It made me examine my own life. Do I fight my battles in my own strength? Or do I bring them before Jesus?

Overall, I think every Christian should watch this movie! The professional acting, superb filming, and convicting story-line turns War Room into a must-see movie!

Other Notes:

I have enjoyed every production that the Kendrick Brothers have made. They are all wholesome, encouraging, and exciting films. I would strongly recommend that you look up their other movies if you haven't seen them. =)

Have you seen War Room? What did you think? Also, tell me about your prayer life. Is it hot or cold? Comment below!

  3. War Room!!! I love that movie. I should watch it again. =) It's probably my new favorite Kendrick brother movie maybe. Have you ever watched the making of it and the bloopers? The bloopers are really funny and the making of it is so cool how God provided exactly what they needed!

    1. It does, Jessica! I would really recommend you taking the time to watch War Room! We often watch movies like that through VidAngel.com because you can get almost any movie for only one dollar, and they will filter out any bad language/immodesty for you! It's pretty amazing. =)

I'm glad that you enjoy my reviews. This one felt thrown together because school has taken away a lot of my blogging time. =) But I do enjoy sharing inspiring movies that I've seen. And I hope they bless you. =)

  8. Hosanna!!! I LOVED your review! Your enthusiasm and love for this movie just shone out in this post!
Daddy showed my sisters and I the trailer for 'War Room,' but he said that if we watched it, it would probably just be him, Savannah, and I. We haven't seen it yet, but it looked like a very good movie, though!! And it's quotable?! That's AWESOME! Us sisters quote stuff allll the time. =)
And my prayer life? Wellll...my prayer life is sporadic. Sometimes hot, sometimes cold. But I think, overall, it's gotten colder. Which is never a good thing. But with God's help, I'll fight to get the blaze burning steadily!! =)

    1. It is a very good movie, Ariel! And yes, it's quotable! LOL. In fact, I am quite sick of some of the lines because they are quoted waaaay too much in our house. =P Haha! I hope you can watch it with you sister and dad...a great daughter-father night, right? ;)

Keep that fire burning, girl!! I know it's so easy to forget...I do it more often than I would like to admit. But prayer is so, so, SO important!

Thanks for the lovely comment. ;)

  9. I really love this movie!!! It was quite interesting for my family to watch, as my dad was a pharmaceutical rep for about 10 years, so we kinda understood the inside story on why what Tony did was such a huge deal. It really gave us a 3rd dimension on this already amazing movie.

I enjoy your movie reviews, by the way! Not many people do them. You do them very well, though. :)

    1. That's awesome, Ivy!! My parents are both medical, so I understand about that. =) They see every medical mess-up in movies. =P LOL. It does occasionally enrich movies though. =)

Aw, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy them. =) I've noticed over the months of following blogs that there are lots of book reviews but not many movie reviews...so I though it would be fun to offer some. ;) I'm glad you enjoy them!!

  11. OH!!! I cried so much through this movie! I loved it so much! I got chills, tears, and laughter through this movie. I loved Mrs.Clara the most! She's just so... I don't know, the perfect old christian woman! Like the sweet lady down the street who gives you cookies and lemonade! And you never forget her encouraging words! (I want to be that type of woman when I get old!)

    1. Isn't she though? Mrs. Clara is an example of a woman who lived a long life and still can say that "God is faithful." AND she lives it out in the movie! I would also like to be that type of woman one day. A sweet, loving, prayer-warrior. ♥

Such an encouraging movie. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Caroline. =) I can relate to your chills, tears, and laughter. ;) Lol!
