Conservation: A Big Deal?

The topic of the environment seems like a big deal.  If we don't preserve the earth, then all the rest of the human population will have to live on a planet blighted with litter, global warming, with a loss of extinct animals, and all those bad things.  After Earth Day has come and passed, I felt a bit disgusted with it all.  Conservationists passed out coloring book to little kids (my siblings!) telling them to "save the world" and stickers that said "I love the earth."  Thus, this post is revealing it's face on my blog.  I know this isn't a normal post for me, but please stick though!

Is conservation a "big deal" or not?  (I'm glad you asked!)  Genesis 1 talks a bit about how we are responsible to the earth.  After God created everything--the light and darkness, the oceans, the birds, the mammals, and so much more--on the sixth day He created man.  God said, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  (Genesis 1:28)

God wants us to take care of the earth.  We are stewards of what He has given us.  But a lot of people take this too far.  People dedicate their lives to "saving the earth."  They care too much about "going green."

Honestly, it's not that big of a deal.

Yes, recycling, planting trees, saving whales and pandas, and reducing the ozone layer are good things to do.  But a lot of people are spending their lives doing good things when they could do great things for God!

While people are crying and screaming about the trees that are being brutally destroyed by loggers, they are completely ignoring the fact that 3,700 human children are aborted every day.  That's twice as big as the population of the town I live in!!  (Okay, so I live in a small town, but still...)

That's around 154 children literally torn apart every hour.  It's a sad world we live in.  And many of the people who support abortion are also "going green" and "saving our environment."  Is this lovely place God has created for us more important than the ones who were created in His image?  Why don't we hear this part of the story?

Maybe God has chosen to put you in the environmental field.  If that's what He has chosen for you, then honor Him with it.  But please make sure that you aren't spending your life doing good things when you could be doing GREAT things for Him!!

Sorry for my random post.  I don't usually write about topics like this.  =)

What do you think about Earth Day?  What are some ways where you can exchange "good" things for "great" things in your life?  Comment below!

  1. You summed up my thoughts exactly, Hosanna! Yes, we should take care of the earth that God gave us, but not to the extent that we 'worship' it, or care more about it than other great things, including God! Thank you!

    1. Thank you for commenting, Emily!

Yes, we watched a video clip of a group of people, literally wailing that the beautiful trees were being "brutally murdered." They screamed, "We love you, even if nobody else does!" Our family was cracking up! But...that might have been real...which is scary. It's sad how people want to take so much care of creation...but they forget the Creator.

I'm glad that you enjoyed my post. I wasn't sure if I should share it or not...but it posted without my realizing it. =D LOL

    2. Oh my goodness, that's crazy- and pretty sad if that's true! I honestly can't understand why people don't realize that all those precious babies need to be loved much more than trees!!

  2. I completely agree. I'm taking an environmental science class at school and being bombarded with things like global warming and "we are running out of everything". I agree that we must be good stewards of the earth, but God will provide us with the resources we need until He returns.

Yes, we must focus on saving those precious babies before the environment.

    1. OH YES, ALEA! I took an class called Earth Science, but it talked all about environmental things too. I think they try to scare the readers into protecting the earth...by saying how we are running out of literally everything! It's absolutely crazy.

The precious babies!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ It is tragic how they are murdered every day by their parents. American needs God so much right now!

I hope you are given the opportunity to witness to the students and teacher in your class. You are in a great place to shine your light!!

      Thank you for commenting, Alea!

This is such a good post Hosanna!! I totally agree with everything you said...we should be good stewards of what He has given us, but not worship it, but worship the One who created it!

    1. Thank you for commenting, Hannah! It's kind of crazy that we even do that...worshiping the creation instead of the all-powerful Creator! We are so blessed to having a mighty Creator who forgives us for our faults and loves us just the same. ♥

  4. Sort of makes me think of the Sabbath dilemma. God created it as a good gift for us to enjoy; not that we would become slaves to it or idolize it. It seems like the Sabbath and the issue of conservation go along with many, many things in life that require balance. We need to be discerning to know how much is good and how much is idolatry.

    1. That is a wonderful example, Jordy! It is very easy to become like the Pharisees in the Bible...trying so hard to follow every little rule and missing out on all the Love that God wants to bestow upon us! And it's so sad that we do that sometimes. =/

Thank you for sharing! You have some great thoughts! =)

    1. Awwww, Ariel! You have four little siblings? ♥ I'm sure they are adorable and maybe help you gain more patience. Mine sure do! ;) LOL

Yes, it is very sad...beautiful, beautiful children that God has a perfect plan for are being murdered! =( It breaks my heart to think about it. And when you read verses like, "I have knitted you together in your mother's womb..." it makes you totally understand how precious they are to God. It must break His heart too. =(

    2. Yes, I certainly am blessed by my siblings. God has used them to teach me many things! =)
I know. I am glad that there are people who are trying to do something about it, though.

    3. Haha...it's funny how siblings teach you so many qualities, isn't it? They make you realize how lacking you are. ;)

Thank you for commenting Ariel! (by the way, your name is beautiful!!)

  7. Thank you for posting your thoughts on this, even if it's not your norm! I really appreciated it, because it's something I haven't actually put a lot of thought into, but it seems to becoming a more and more pressing issue..

I definitely agree with prioritizing things, and I think that's kind of the answer. God still created the trees and our environment, and He does want us to be mindful of it. But He made humanity in His very own image, and it's sad when people put trees before people. It's possible that the reason why people are so mixed up is because they understand that all things evolved, and therefore people are no better than animals and plants.. But knowing the way God made everything, changes the perspective.

Anyway, sorry for my long, rambling comment! Your post has definitely gotten me thinking. :)

    1. Thanks for your comment! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! =) Isn't it awesome how we both posted posts this week in a slightly similar topic of how people are created in GOD'S image?! =) (another God thing!) I think that is something that we really, really need to remember. If we are created by God and for God, then our lives should be reflecting it by our priorities!!

I couldn't agree more with you! =) Don't mind writing long comments...it only expresses your heart all the better. =)
