About Me

Hello Friends (and future friends)!

I am Hosanna Emily—an indie author, sister to eight siblings, homeschooled student, blogger, and avid reader who lives on a little farm by a bubbling creek in the middle of nowhere.  I create stories in my head and on paper that point to Jesus and the love He shows to us.  I believe that life starts from conception, marriage is between a man and woman, and Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins.

I started writing at a young age but only dreamed of having real readers hold my words in their hand.  Now that dream has come true!  I finished writing my first novella at the age of fourteen and published it shortly thereafter.  However, in April of 2016, I did a second edition which is now available for sale.  I hope to write other pieces that bring readers (and myself as the author) closer into the arms of Jesus.

Other than that, I play the piano, sing, practice American Sign Language and Latin American Spanish, draw, chat with friends, read, send snail-mail cards or make other various crafts, or hangout with my family and my Savior.  I also love using smiley faces in emailing and blogging. =) I read books from The Chronicles of Narnia, to the Ilyon Chronicles, the Wilderking Trilogy,  The Crown and Covenant Series or anything by Janette Oke.  My favorite genre is Christian historical fiction.  I love to be a Beta reader for new writers!  (comment below if you are looking for some readers!!)  ;)

Want to see some of my favorites?
  • Colors:  Carnation pink and chocolate brown
  • Animals:  Horses, sea turtles, deer, dolphins, zebras...
  • Songs:  Do Everything (Steven Curtis Chapman) and Lifeline (Mandisa)
  • Movies:  Fireproof, Beyond the Mask, Courageous, and Sue Thomas FBEye
  • Bible Verse: 1 Peter 3:4  "Rather let it (beauty) be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."
  • Bible Chapter:  Psalm 139

Well, that's me!  I also contribute to another blog called Living Fearlessly: Girls On a Mission to Live Unashamed.  If you have time, check that one out and subscribe to receive encouraging stories, articles and other various pieces from girls around the country!

Why Having A Heart Like His?

“And if I can sing
Let my songs be full of His glory
If I can speak
Let my words be full of His grace

And if I should live or die
Let me be found pursuing this prize
The One that alone satisfies
The treasure of Jesus”
—Treasure of Jesus by Steven Curtis Chapman

This song is what describes my blog's mission and my life's purpose:  To showcase the glory of Jesus!

I created this blog, hoping that it would help bring you closer to God and encourage my readers in their own writing. I selected the name:  Having A Heart Like His because...well, let me explain.

A verse from Acts talks about David—one of the most well known kings of Israel. It says, "I (God) I have found David son of Jesse, a man after My own heart; he will do everything I want him to do." You probably know the stories of David. How he killed someone to cover up for his sins...how he committed adultery...how he couldn't even raise his own sons to love the Lord...so how could God ever call him a man after His own heart?

The answer is...**drum roll** God forgave David! David was willing to give his life for God's service. He begged for His forgiveness. He turned from his sins and then turned back to God! The point isn't that David sinned, it is that he turned from his sin and repented. Then instead of just going back to life, he lived differently—obeying God! That is how we all should be! I want to have a heart like His...do you?

I hope as you read my blog, it draws your heart closer to God's and helps you to see Him differently!

I'm a new writer, working towards publishing my first series of novellas. So I found it very exciting to read that you've recently published your first novella. Congratulations! I'm inspired. :)

That's so funny! I was actually kind of surprised when I saw that you had watched them too! And for the same reason! :) Most of the people I know haven't seen them either. ;)

The Meeting Place is part of a series. =) I actually haven't been able to finish reading the entire series, but I really want to in the future! **high fives!!** Sue Thomas FBEye is amazing! I am learning ASL...but that series is part of what drew me into loving ASL. =) Do you know American Sign Language?

P.S....I love your long comments! =) Thank you SO much!! ;)

    4. Okay. :)

I saw “The Meeting Place” at the library the other day, and it looked good! :) I’ve added it to my long list of books to read. ;) “A Gown of Spanish Lace” is really good!! :) It was actually the first book that I read by Janette Oke.

*high fives back* Sue Thomas FBEye is really good! That’s so cool that you’re learning ASL! I know a little bit. Like the alphabet and a few basic signs, but that’s all. Although I would love to learn more sometime. :)

Oh, you’re welcome. :) I've really enjoyed getting to know you better, Hosanna! I love making new blogger friends! :D

    5. The very first book I read by Janette Oke was Once Upon a Summer...and I didn't like it at all! =) I was so disappointed until I read other series and LOVED her writing. =)

Knowing finger-spelling is a good first step! Being aware of the Deaf community and treating them as equal people is so important. =) Sounds like you have a good foundation in ASL if you every plan on continuing! (and I might do a blog post on how to learn ASL at home in the future)

*bows* My pleasure, Rebekah! =) I hope you stay a long time! =) And I hope my blog inspires you to have a closer relationship with Jesus! <3

Wow, we have a lot in common! Did you take the ASL course with Landry? If you did, how did you like it? I'm trying to decide whether I should take it or not :) Isn't 'The Chronicles of Narnia' an awesome series?! Do you have a favourite, or do you love 'em all? :D

    1. Wow.

What a way to meet another blogger! I was blown away by this! It seriously made my day! =)

I think we swapped names when we were there, but that's it. =) I am SO sorry I didn't talk to you!!! In my defense, I drove 10 hours to visit Haley and the others. LOL. =D (which isn't a good excuse, however) We met in a Landry Community class called Reservation For Two. (which happens to be the best class ever and has changed my life! You should look it up!) =)

Yes! I took the ASL course with Mr. Dally through Landry! I am continuing this year. =) I LOVED IT. He is an amazing teacher! Mr. Dally thinks of creative ways for us to remember signs...and he's hilarious!) =) I would really recommend you taking it!!! Even the tests are fun! (for me at least, haha)

I love the entire Narnia series! But the first he wrote (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) has been the most inspirational in my life. =) It has helped me to see God in a new light and how great Jesus' sacrifice was for me. <3

Good guess! Yes, he indeed took that photo for me! =) He also videos anything I need him to (for both of my Landry classes). It's quite handy. ;) He has improved so much with his Landry class on videoing with Mr. K! =)

Thank you so, so, so much for commenting, Blessing! This was one of my favorite comments ever! LOLOL!

(p.s.) I assume that you go by Blessing on the internet? ;)

    2. Oh, haha, no need to apologize! I totally understand and it’s good that you were able to talk to Haley and your friends!!! :D Yes, I heard of the Reservation For Two from Hannah E. (who found me from my blog, recognized a classmate (Amy K.), told me, and then from her blog, I found you ;))

That’s great! So far, all the feedback I’ve gotten for the ASL course has been more than positive (if such a thing is possible ;)) Hehe, Mr. Dally sounds awesome! What kind of creative ways does he come up with? Tests for sign language? That’s got to be interesting! Is it recognizing signs on a screen or actually making the signs in a video or something for him to mark? :)

YES, ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ is great! I think I mayhave talked to your mom about it that day at Landry Camp. Not too sure. . . =) But that book was the first one I ever read from the Narnia series, and I remember wondering why the story sounded so familiar. That’s when I discovered the word ‘allegory’ ;)

Hehe, yes, it must be very handy! I guess you help him in return by being the subject in some of his photographs? ;) Was it you in his last photography assignment? It was using artificial light, so I could only see half a face, but it sure did look like you! Unless you have a sibling that looks a lot like you? :D

And yes, haha, I do go by Blessing on the internet ;D

      Delete
    3. Yes! Hannah told me about that! =) This is such an unusual way to meet someone. LOL. God works in amazing ways. ;)

When my ASL teacher shows us a sign, he often gives us ways to remember it...for instance, showing us how the sign is related to the word. Or he gives us another way to keep it in our brains by creating a relationship to something. (like "hate" for broccoli...hehe) It's all fun. =) And the tests are different every time! Sometimes they include looking at signs and writing down what they are. Sometimes it's answering questions on Deaf history. Or even translating English into ASL gloss. =) You do send him videos, but not in the tests...those are regular assignments.

Oh wow!!! Josiah didn't even know that you were in his class! When I told him, he was so surprised. He had seen your name but didn't link it to you. ;) That's so cool that you are in the same photography class as he is! And yes, sometimes I am his subject in photography. ;) But the artificial light assignment wasn't me...it was my sister! LOL. ;) And she doesn't really look like me either. =)

I have loved getting to know you so much!! =D
